Fine Finishing Systems There are two main types of fine finishing systems. The first involves a, three-headed rotary machine. These machines are large, with an effective vacuum as an integral part of the machine. Abrasive discs (usually grade 100 or 120) are attached to the three heads which rotate independently, providing a very efficient level of sanding. In fact these machines work so efficiently that when fitted with abrasive grade 100 it will sand equivalent to 1 20 grit. An alternative to this dedicated machine is to use a floor buffing machine fitted with a conditioning pad system. This involves a fine abrasive pad with a small, coarse grit (usually 150 grit) attached to the drive plate of the machine. During operation, the coarse grit element sands the floor. The fine pad follows this, removing any scratches. Both of these systems are suitable for blending the two areas sanded by different means, producing an even surface which will result in the best possible finish when lacquered or oiled. |
